I Need A Clean Heart”

Psalm 51 was written by David when Nathan the prophet came unto him after he had gone into Bath-Sheba. Here David is crying out to God for mercy and forgiveness because the Lord had been dealing with him about his sin with Bathsheba and the murder of her husband Uriah.

(Psalm 51:10-12 says, Create in me a clean heart, O God. And renew a steadfast spirit within me. (verse 11) Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.(Verse 12) Restore to me the joy of your salvation, make me willing to obey you.

A new heart must be created and a right spirit renewed. What isthe definition of create?

To create, is the act of producing or causing to exist. To bring into being, make or form.

This moving prayer for restoration asks God’s favor, His mercy, forgiveness, and cleansing. Out of a broken spirit. David confesses and accepts responsibility for his sin in (51:3-6) then petitions God to remove the guilt and renew him inwardly (51:7-12) God’s Spirit renews and creates the human spirit. (Psalm 51:10-12) A loyal spirit yields the inner qualities of consistency and perseverance. And only the Holy Spirit can change the human will to make it “loyal” and willing to obey. God didn’t send us defenseless, He left us with the Holy Spirit, to lead us and guide us into all Truth.

We must be renewed, and renewed, and renewed daily, it’s not a one and done! We must continually get renewed in God. Through prayer, reading His Word, and worship.

A cleansing of our heart, causes sin to separate from us, and brings restoration and divine support. The renewal of the heartand spirit, are common images which represent not only forgiveness but also a change that enables us to live in obedience to the Lord’s commands. And a willing spirit, is an attitude of a heart, totally given over to the Lord.

Why? Because God wants our whole heart and our whole mind!He is about changing everything in our lives. Not just some of it, but all of it. Because if their is no conversion, there is no transformation! God isn’t into renting rooms, He wants the whole house. And He not only wants the keys to your house, (your earthen vessel) He wants the keys to your heart. He wants what you are holding on to, no matter what it it is. What are you still holding on to, that you haven’t completely handed over to Him? Is it a failed relationship, a deceased family member? What is causing God, to stay on the outside looking in, from the windows of your heart.

Allow God to create, produce, and bring into your dwelling a clean heart, and renew a right spirit within you. As you surrender and freely give to Him, the secret things you’ve been hiding in the concealed pockets of your heart including…..your keys.
